See how important he is !

Phantom of the Opera Survey

1.) Which versions of Phantom of the Opera have you seen/read?

I have seen a lot of Phantom movies ( thank you, reviewer ! ) , my favorite being the 1925 silent version . I have read the original novel, Susan Kay’s Phantom, Phantom of Manhattan ( yes, it’s true…but I’m not going to re-read the book, I love the Persian :)  ). As a Holmesian I’d like to read the Canary Trainer.

2.) Which version is your favorite? The silent movie, 1925, with Lon Chaney .

3.) Who do you think is the best Phantom/Erik? Lon Chaney.

4.) Best Christine? Susanna Foster

5.) Best Raoul? Edward de Sauza as Harry Hunter in the Herbert Lom version.

6.) Thoughts on Love Never Dies? I don’t like the fact that it’s ( very loosely ) based on PoM. I love “ Till I Hear You Sing and often imagine that it’s a song about missing the Persian, who is absent from many PotO adaptations.  I only have to change some words  in my mind a little bit.

7.) Thoughts on the 2004 movie? Not my favorite version. I don’t care much for young sexy Phantoms.

8.) Thoughts on the 25th Anniversary Performance? Decent. BTW, Mme Giry , dressed all in black, reminded me of the Persian from the silent movie .

9.) Who is your favorite character? Erik and the Persian.

10.) Do you dis/like Raoul?  Do you think the phans’ perception of him is fair or accurate?

I don’t hate Raoul, even though he’s not my fave character – I find Erik and the Persian more interesting.

11.) Do you think Christine should have stayed with the Phantom? Would you?

No.  I wouldn’t.

12.) Who would be in your dream cast for a Leroux or Kay based film?

Lon Chaney as the Phantom. That’s all I need.

13.) Why are you a Phantom phan? Because I like mysteries…and I find two characters very interesting.

14.) How long have you been a phan? Nearly 3 years.

15.) What are your thoughts on the “phandom”?  I enjoy sharing thoughts with other Phans, even though we don’t always agree.

16.) Do you read or write Phantom fanfiction? No.

17.) What would you say to Erik, should you live long enough after stumbling into his lair?

I think it would be best to avoid that kind of situation…

18.) What advice would you have given to Christine if she sought your help? Find the Persian ( sorry, I can’t think of anything better ).

19.) What do you think about the various deformities given to the Phantom/Erik in the versions you have seen/read? I have a lot of respect for what Lon Chaney did.  In other versions..oh, well…

20.) If you could play any of the characters (gender not an issue) who would you like to play?

If they ever make a version with the Persian…dating * wink * „, count me in.
